The Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA)

The Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) was formally established in March 1999 by virtue of the decision made by the Board of Regents during its 1128th meeting on January 28, 1999. OICA is under the Office of the Chancellor, UP Diliman.

OICA is mandated to carry out the following functions:

  1. To formulate policies, guidelines, plans and programs on artistic and cultural activities for UP Diliman. These activities are directed towards the following:
    • enrichment of artistic and cultural experiences of UP Diliman students, faculty, staff, residents, and audiences off-campus;
    • promotion of humanistic and nationalistic values among the members of the UP Diliman community and the nation;
    • creation of an environment conducive to realizing the visions of UP Diliman artists and cultural workers;
  2. To organize, coordinate, and support various artistic and cultural activities in UP Diliman;
  3. To promote and support the various artists and artistic groups in UP Diliman;
  4. To plan, evaluate, and oversee the development of theaters, museums, sculptures, garden, art galleries, studios, and other cultural facilities and infrastructure in UP Diliman;
  5. To promote UP Diliman as a major cultural center in the Philippines.

UP Asterisk

Ang Asosasyon ng Kabataang Artista, Kritiko, at Iskolar ng Sining at Kultura- Unibersidad ng Pilipinas o UP Asterisk ay isang organisasyon na nakabase sa Departamento ng Araling Sining sa Kolehiyo ng Arte at Literatura, UP Diliman. Itinatag ang organisasyon taong 2006.

Isinusulong at nilalayon ng organisasyon ang paghikayat sa mga mag-aaral na makipagpalitan ng mga diskurso at pananaw hinggil sa sining at kultura; produksiyon ng sining sa pamamagitan ng mga palihan, pagpapaunlad ng kritisismong pansining, at pag-aaral sa sining na may higit na diin sa sining at kultura ng Pilipinas; maging espasyo ng mga mag-aaral sa pagpapalalim at pag-unawa sa larang ng sining at kultura; at higit sa lahat, maging tipunan ng mga kabataang artista, kritiko at iskolar ng sining at kultura sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas.

At its 1179th Meeting held on 26 February 2004, upon the recommendation of University of the Philippines (UP) President Francisco Nemenzo (1999-2005), the UP Board of Regents (BOR) approved the creation of the University of the Philippines Information Technology Training Center (UP ITTC) program under the Office of the Vice President for Development. On 22 July 2004, the BOR appointed Assistant Vice President for Development, Dr. Jaime D.L. Caro, as UP ITTC Director.

As a leader in specialized IT trainings, software or applications development, and ICT consulting, the Center offers a wide array of services to meet specific business needs of its clients. The UP ITTC began to offer customized solutions for a diverse range of clientele from various industries—from business to government agencies, charitable institutions, and nongovernment organizations.

University Computer Center

University Computer Center

The University of the Philippines Computer Center was established in September 15, 1966 by the Board of Regents of the University in its 750th meeting. After two years of research and collaborative work, it commenced operations on April 24, 1968. Receiving a $625,000 grant from the Ford Foundation and a $213,614 discount from IBM, the Center purchased its first IBM 360/40 mainframe as well as free training for UPCC personnel and staff.

The Center was established primarily for three main purposes: (1) Provide centralized high-speed computing services and programming assistance to the faculty, staff and students of the University (2) Develop and administer an inter-disciplinary academic program in Computer Science; assist other academic departments in the development of computer-oriented courses in their respective disciplines. (3) Develop and conduct a program of research in Computer Sciences.
