Located in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, the Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Center is a hub for Philippine art and culture, focusing on research, curation, and education. It has a permanent collection, a library, a gallery space for exhibitions and workshops, seminars, and the like.
The museum got its name from Jorge B. Vargas, a distinguished alumnus of the University of the Philippines who served as the first Executive Secretary during the Commonwealth Period. In 1978, Vargas donated his art collection spanning Philippine art from the 1880s to the 1960s, stamps, and other memorabilia to the university. Many of his art collection is from Fernando Amorsolo, the first National Artist of the Philippines.
